The London Singers – Press Release

Press Release

September 6, 2018

Last year, the H. B. Beal Singers & The London Singers were invited to represent our city and the Province of Ontario in official celebrations to mark Canada 150 in Ottawa on Canada Day July 1st, 2017!! Our singers combined with choirs from every province from coast to coast to celebrate our nation’s past, present and future through the joy of singing. It is a memory that our singers will cherish for a lifetime.

This year, Mr. David Weaver was invited by MidAmerica Productions to conduct the Vivaldi Gloria with the H. B. Beal Singers, The London Singers and the New England Symphony at world famous Carnegie Hall in New York City on June 2, 2018. It was a great honour to be invited to sing in this International Concert and another inspiring experience for our singers!

H. B. Beal Secondary School is a large inner city high school in London, Ontarioand is known for its excellence in the visual and performing arts. For 106 years our school has made a positive impact in our community and beyond. The London Technical School, now H. B. Beal Secondary School, was founded by its first principal Herbert Benson Beal in 1912 but the building on Dundas Street was not completed until 1916, right during the middle of the First World War. When opened, the building was humming 24/7, training people for the war effort. This year, 2018 marks the 100th anniversary of the end of the Great War, the “War to end all Wars”.

In a special concert in November, the Beal Singers and London Singers would like to commemorate the end of World War One with inspiring music on the theme of Peaceby world renowned British composer John Rutter. This special concert will honour those who served and gave their lives for the cause of peace and will also be an opportunity to bring us into the Season of “Peace on Earth and Goodwill” with even greater resolve to make our world a better place.

With over 80 countries and cultural backgrounds represented in our incredibly diverse student body, we at Beal are unified in our belief that everyone has value and should be given the opportunity to pursue their dreams. Many of our students face challenges to succeed however through a caring and supportive atmosphere our students are able to find the strength to persevere and confidence to allow their voices to be heard. The students are always excited to perform in our school and also on the world stage! We are passionate about making a meaningful artistic contribution to our community, and strive to nurture the spirit of our school, city and world through the joy and gift of music.

The London Singers Community Choir & Orchestra was founded in 2000 with the primary goal to place young people in the midst of great choral masterworks. The London Singers and the H. B. Beal Singers perform together in local London Concerts, for elementary schools, nursing homes and hospitals. They have also travelled on previous tours to New York and Ottawa.
